Omikuji is the classic Japanese shrine (and temple) fortune draw. You receive one slip ranked from great blessing to misfortune, with short notes on wishes, love, work, and health.
This page recreates shaking the cylinder and drawing one slip. When a poor fortune appears, we also mention the custom of tying it to a tree branch to let go of attachment.
